The Field Report with Tom Field

About Fraud - See You at FICO World

About Fraud - See You at FICO World

Are we clear yet that fraud is so far the story of the year, and it comes in several dominant flavors?

Just look at the recent headlines from around the U.S.:

  • In Texas, there is now a court date set for the case involving PlainsCapital Bank vs. Hillary Machinery re: ACH fraud and the question over what constitutes "reasonable security."

  • In Washington D.C., an information security vendor is beating the drum for new or amended regulations giving businesses the same protection from fraud losses as consumers now have.

  • And in Washington state there now is a new law looking to help financial institutions recover losses from third-party payment card breaches.

In addition to these stories, I've recently conducted several interviews with experts on the insider threat, global risks and mortgage fraud.

In other words, when it comes to fraud, there's a lot to discuss.

So much, in fact, that I'm taking the conversation on the road this week to the FICO World event in Miami. I'll be arriving at the event late Tues, spending the day attending sessions and meeting folks on Weds., and then on Thursday morning I'll be presenting our own insights on fraud in the context of our latest Banking Information Security survey results.

I'll be posting interviews and insights from the event, but I'd welcome hearing from you, too. If you're going to be at FICO World, please reach out to me, and let's connect. I'd love to hear your experiences and ideas. If you're not attending the event - but still are very interested in the proceedings - then please send me your questions. I'll try to get them answered in the course of my travels.

This even won't be the last word on fraud, but it certainly will help advance what's shaping up to be the most important discussion of the year.
