Conquer Any Security Challenge With Next-Gen Solutions
Palo Alto Networks' Imran Bashir Says Security Solutions Must Understand ContextThe zero trust security model calls for least privilege access and continuous policy enforcement, and it operates on the premise that every user and device is treated as potentially untrusted, and access is granted based on strict verification and need-to-know principles.
Next-generation solutions are a key component of zero trust security strategy to help mitigate zero-day malware attacks, which are becoming increasingly common. As adversaries grow more sophisticated in their methods, detecting and countering such attacks with traditional firewall approaches becomes ineffective, said Imran Bashir, director of technical marketing at Palo Alto Networks.
"In today's world, with the explosion of the SaaS application, the IP and port are completely irrelevant," Bashir said. "You need to know what the application is so you can enforce the right policy. On the user side, we live in a world where we're not confined into a cube or an office or a wire port that we connect and get access. We can connect from anywhere; we can access from anywhere. For the best experience, we can access a SaaS application to our nearest point of presence. Putting all this together, we need a solution, which is next-gen."
In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at Black Hat USA 2023, Bashir also discussed:
- Adopting zero trust to ensure continuous vigilance;
- The need for context-aware policies for next-gen solutions;
- The role of AI/ML in strengthening cybersecurity.
Bashir has been in the information and cybersecurity domain for more than 15 years and has addressed the strategic development of customers' cybersecurity initiatives, business plans and road maps by introducing world-class cybersecurity solutions.
