BlackBerry's Roger Sels on How AI-Driven Solutions Can Transform Response
Cybersecurity Risk Prevention Reconsidered

As Roger Sels of BlackBerry assesses cybersecurity risk, he sees chaos - both cyber and endpoint chaos - as well as enterprises trying to defend automated attacks at human speed. It makes him ask: Isn't it time we rebooted our approach to cybersecurity risk prevention?

Sels, VP of solutions for EMEA at BlackBerry, says today's biggest challenge is that defenders have given up on prevention.

"We've started to believe [prevention] is not an achievable target anymore," he says. "Even if you ask a number of other CISOs their opinions, everybody will tell you 'well, assume you've been breached.' Isn't that a sad state to find ourselves in?"

In an interview on cybersecurity risk prevention, Sels discusses:

  • What's wrong with the current model;
  • The impact of chaos;
  • The cost of defending at human speed.

Sels is VP at Blackberry and has extensive experience in system and network security administration, information security architecture, design, threat and attack modelling, penetration testing, incident response, risk assessment and risk management, policy development and governance.
