Where's the "I" in Your IDaaS?

IBM's Michael Bunyard on the Promise and Value of Emerging Strategy
Where's the "I" in Your IDaaS?

Industry analysts first coined the term Identity-as-a-Service, IDaaS in 2006. But today, the vast majority of IDaaS implementations still focus on the "A" - access management - leaving organizations to piece together the rest. IBM's Michael Bunyard discusses how to put "Identity" back in IDaaS.

Bunyard, Product Marketing Leader for Identity and Access Management at IBM Security, sums up IDaaS this way: "The promise of IDaaS involves getting all identity management capabilities out of the box, without having to have super technical skilled resources, and never having to wait for the next release to take advantage of new features."

But have the IDaaS early adopters succeeded at realizing that vision?

In an interview about IDaaS, Bunyard discusses:

  • How IDaaS differs from other forms of IAM;
  • How organizations have - or have not - met the promise of IDaaS;
  • The value of putting the "I" back in IDaaS.

Bunyard leads IBM IAM's product marketing efforts. He brings over two decades of product management and marketing expertise to this role. Prior to IBM, he led marketing for a start-up company in the endpoint detection and response market, product management for Fiserv's fraud detection solutions, and product marketing for BMC software's enterprise application integration solutions.
